Superior Surface Finish and Paintability: The treatment process uses a light solvent that does not raise the wood grain, resulting in a very smooth surface that is ideal for priming and painting directly without extensive sanding.
Clean and Dry to Handle: Unlike water-based treatments, LOSP timber is kiln-dried after treatment, leaving it dry, stable, and free of surface moisture or chemical residue, making it pleasant and clean for carpenters to work with.
Effective Protection Against Insects: Provides strong resistance against termites and borers, safeguarding the timber from structural damage caused by insect attack.
Resistance to Weathering: While primarily for above-ground use (H2 and H3 grades), it offers good protection against decay and fungal growth in exposed applications like cladding and joinery.

Barwon Timber’s range of LOSP primed pine is treated using an organic H3 Light Organic Solvent Preservative (LOSP) to resist termites.
LOSP Timber is most commonly used for above ground construction projects, including:
H3 LOSP timber’s active ingredient prevents decay and insect attack and can result in the treated wood having a residual smell, which will dissipate relatively quickly if stored in a dry well-ventilated environment.
This premium pine is manufactured by finger jointing and laminate, and pre-primed for an almost perfect finish.
Barwon Timber offers LOSP primed pine in a range of sizes. It is also supplied in grooved fascia.
LOSP is a type of treatment that contains white spirit and Copper Naphthenates with other chemicals to protect against insects or decay.
LOSP contains a preservative that is safe for use around people including children, and pets. However, handling, sawing, sanding any timber materials can present some hazards when airborne particles are generated in the process of working with these items.
See the EPA Working with and handling treated timber safely website for more information.
As with all treated timbers, do not burn offcuts or sawdust. Preservative-treated wood should be disposed of by approved local authority methods to prevent the spread of chemical pollutants leaching into the environment.
H3 LOSP primed timber is rated for outdoor above ground use in well ventilated areas.
