  • Timber Flooring Moisture Content Levels

To help minimise movement in flooring, it is recommended that it be dried to standard moisture levels. In addition to our suppliers stringent testing, we moisture and oven test our flooring.

Timber flooring should have a moisture content between 9 – 14% (10 -15% for Cypress).

Barwon Timber completes oven testing on samples from your floor packs to ensure it’s within standard.

Why is it important that your timber floor has an acceptable moisture content?

Your timber floor will respond to local climate throughout its life. It will expand and contract in response to moisture, humidity and dryness. This is completely normal. How much the floor moves is heavily dependent on the moisture content the floor is installed at.

As timber will react to local moisture and climatic conditions, we recommend you discuss this with your builder or our experienced staff. In addition to our testing, we store, handle and deliver our timber flooring carefully and under cover. We also check our flooring boards using callipers to ensure consistent machining is achieved.

We do all these to minimise the risk of problems occurring in your timber floor. You can be confident flooring supplied by Barwon Timber is sourced from reputable timber mills, stringently tested and handled carefully.
