FLAMEfixx dFx® timber products available at Barwon Timber

We get excited when an innovative product hits the industry, and FLAMEfixx dFx®  treated pine products are becoming a staple for our customers building in areas requiring a BAL-rated solution.   

The FLAMEfixx dFx®  product range includes structural members, decking, and screening. Barwon Timber has been supplying more structural timbers. FLAMEfixx is H3 + dFx® is a patented technology that combines durable (d) wood preservative treatment with a proprietary fire retardant (fx) solution.   

Once impregnated with the dFx® solution, the active ingredients are fixed in the wood for its lifetime. The timber treatment is arsenic-free and suitable for use in high-contact areas.  

The fire retardant component of FLAMEfixx dFx® is based on inorganic metal oxide, free from hydrocarbon and carbon.   The result is low smoke generation levels during combustion in a bushfire, wildfire or fire situation.  On combustion, the flame retardant reverts to its inorganic form.  The result is no adverse environmental issues with air emissions and residual ash.   

FLAMEfixx dFx®  products have been extensively tested to ensure optimal protection against Australian bushfires.  FLAMEfixx dFx®  timber products meet the requirements of BAL-40 set out in the AS 3959-2018 “Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas”.  

FLAMEfixx dFx®  products are clearly identified by its logo, branding and compliance stamps, including the AS3959 rating.   

It is recommended to apply a coating to achieve an added level of protection to FLAMEfixx dFx®  products.  CUTEK EXTREME is recommended by our supplier.  Barwon Timber can precoat your timber using CUTEK EXTREME – remember to treat the ends on site.    FLAMEfixx dFx®  technology is alkaline and as such, is incompatible with Wood Stains and paint coatings. 

Hot dipped galvanized, 304 or 316 grade stainless steel fasteners are recommended for use with FLAMEfixx dFx®  products.   Our hardware and online stores have an extensive range of suitable fasteners.
