High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Offers excellent structural strength for its relatively light weight, making it easier to handle, transport, and install on site compared to heavier hardwoods.
Straightness and Consistency: Grows tall and straight, resulting in timber that is generally uniform in size and shape with fewer defects, ensuring a level and plumb frame.
Ease of Workability: Its relatively soft nature makes it easy to cut, nail, drill, and shape with standard carpentry tools, increasing efficiency and reducing labour time.
Cost-Effectiveness: As a fast-growing, renewable softwood, pine is typically one of the most affordable and readily available framing timber options.

Barwon Timber supply a range of LVL timber and I Joist beams that are suitable for both residential and commercial construction.
Most of the pine framing Barwon Timber stocks is Radiata pine. It can be used for many exposed structural and non-structural applications and is available in a range of lengths and widths.
Merch pine is widely used for a range of non-structural internal applications including propping, noggins and trimming. It is not recommended for load bearing or visible applications.
Most of the pine at Barwon Timber is sourced through our local supplier AKD Softwood. AKD’s products are grown and manufactured in Australian-owned mills located in regional Australian communities across their East Coast network.
Barwon Timber also stocks imported pine. Contact our Timber team for product availability.
