Shou Sugi Ban is created using an ancient Japanese technique that involves charring the surface of the timber with fire. Applying the fire treatment not only gives it a unique and striking appearance, but also creates an additional barrier of protection against insect attack and decay. The fire treatment also increases the species’ overall durability, making it suitable for residential and commercial projects.
We sell and recommend Hurford’s Shou Sugi Ban cladding. The timber selected by Hurford’s is ethically sourced and processed by their locally owned and operated facility in Queensland.
Available in 70 or 120mm cover, shiplap ‘Coulee’ profile, this external cladding can be supplied in Cypress, mixed hardwoods or BAL 29 rated hardwoods. Shou Sugi Ban is supplied pre-oiled with Feast Watson Timber and Deck Stain, Black Japan, to assist in the protection from aging and colour change. Featuring end-matching and a moisture barrier system, Shou Sugi Ban is an aesthetically pleasing yet durable façade option.
