Solid timber strip floorboards are designed to be installed over joists, battens, structural plywood, concrete, particleboard flooring, and other solid structural subfloors. Providing it has been installed and maintained correctly, a solid strip timber floor can last a lifetime.

Because it’s made of solid timber, each floorboard will be unique in colour and feature. A solid timber floor supports biophilic design outcomes. The raw finish timber flooring allows you to add different finishes such as stains, oils, solvents and water-base finishes to suit your design preferences. Should you choose to remove timber flooring, it can be repurposed or safely recycled.
It’s a structural product.
Customers often select solid strip flooring when they’re matching into an existing floor, or they would like to install their floor over joists. Some customers like the springiness of a floor installed over joists rather than directly over a flat substrate like structural sheet flooring or concrete.
Can be sanded and recoated multiple times.
It can be sanded and recoated multiple times to give your solid timber floor a new look. Your timber floor will have a long service life and can be revitalised by completing a recoat during this.
Easy Maintenance
Cleaning and maintaining sold timber floors is incredibly easy. Use a vacuum or soft bristle brush to remove dirt and debris. For stains and spills, simple use cleaning products that are approved for timber floors. If you need furniture pads to protect your floor, we offer these in our showroom.
Similar in colour and appearance to European oak. The sapwood of American white oak is light coloured and the heartwood is light to dark brown.
A commonly grown hardwood that has attractive colouring from cream to pale brown and an occasional tinge of subtle pink.
Sought after for its unique properties and aesthetic qualities. A fine and even texture varying from pale pinkish grey to rich reddish brown.
Prized for its unique, soft rose tones varying from pale pink to soft reds and red browns. It has a straight grain and the occasional natural scribble pattern.
A stunning array of timber hues from pale brown to dark chocolate brown as well as dark red. The grain is usually interlocked, with a moderately coarse surface texture.
Popular for its durability and colour variation, the timbers colour ranges from browns to reds in both light and dark hues.
A darker species of the spotted gum family with deeper reds and rich browns.
A well-known east coast timber. It has a straight grain that is sometimes interwoven. Its distinctive colour varies from soft pinks to dark pinks and red toned browns.
An exceptionally durable hardwood with unique colour and grain structure. It is predominately yellowish brown with a tinge of olive green and beautiful growth rings visible.
Heartwood golden brown, often with narrow bands of darker colour indicative of the growth rings. Sometimes reddish streaks are also present.
Heartwood pale to light brown in colour with a pinkish tinge. Sapwood is pale yellow, usually distinguishable from the heartwood. Texture moderately coarse but even. Grain sometimes interlocked. Growth rings visible but not prominent. Gum veins are common.
Trees are affected by wildfires, years of drought and attack by insects. Deep red gum veins formed by fire, ambrosia beetle marks, pin holes and squiggly worm marks are all evident.

Like most solid timber floors, solid strip flooring comes unfinished and will be sanded, polished and coated on site after installation. This gives the customer the biggest choice of finishes.
This grade is characterised by a clear, consistent appearance with minimal occurrences of natural features such as knots and gum veins.
This option is usually selected by those who are looking for a relatively uniform look with minimal colour variation.
This grade is the best of both worlds. It contains more natural features than the Select grade such as gum veins and knots but is still quite uniform in colour and grain.
This grade has more character than the Select grade. It features more knots, gum veins, borer holes and a larger range of colour variations compared to the higher grades.
It is a more affordable flooring option and a popular choice for those who appreciate the natural beauty of timber.
Solid timber floors are essentially made up as slabs of real wood that are treated and sealed with a protective coat. They are exceptionally sturdy and long-lasting.
Depending on how aggressively the floor sander sands the floor, you could expect 3 or 4 sand and recoats.
One thing that has to be remembered is most flooring does not have a universal look. Most species will look different from board to board. If you don’t like a feature, there is a select grade option. The colour of the boards will change depending on what coat you apply. Remember, timber floors are a natural product and so they’ll be similar to each other but may vary slightly from time to time.
Timber flooring is only available in random lengths.
Most supplier’s will only recommend to secret flooring fix up to an 85mm wide board. You need to check with the flooring supplier to see what recommendations they have for their product.
Generally, expansion joints are required in a floor that has a 6 m span or greater.
