We’ve had a number of visitors in to see our composite decking display at our showroom. Our composite decking and cladding ranges are proving popular amongst our customers.
Whilst there are a number of benefits to using composite decking which we write about here, it should be remembered that composite decking is susceptible to movement driven by environmental factors.
Understanding movement is essential for successful installation and the long-term performance of your composite decking.
You could easily assume that expansion and contraction of composite decking would be limited to our wood fibre range, however our PVC based composite ranges are also susceptible to movement.
Consideration of movement when installing composite decking will result in less risk of boards popping or causing damage to any abutting materials.
Each of our manufacturers provide an installation guide which must be read and understood prior to composite decking installation. Installation guides will let you know the recommended spacing between decking board sides and ends. Guides will also nominate preferred fixings. If you’re unsure where to find the installation guide for the composite decking you’re selecting from Barwon Timber, speak to our team – we’re here to help.
Some guides will suggest an acclimatisation process if you are installing composite decking in extreme weather conditions.
Composite decking is a fantastic product, that when installed correctly will result in long service life.
